Diving in Phuket depends on the 'season' that you are diving in. The 'seasons' here are based primarily on the weather patterns in this region which affect the strength of underwater and surface currents, water visibility and presence of certain marine life such as manta rays, whale sharks, etc. The best time for diving is most certainly from November to March. However, with some luck, diving other than these months can be just as good, or even better.

Contary to what many people think of Phuket's deteriorating diving conditions, diving here can still be a very enjoyable experience. Evidently, the reefs ten years ago were much healthier and livelier in compared to those still surviving in present time (people who dived here long before can prove this). Perhaps the rapid destruction of the reefs here, and anywhere in the world, serves to tell us one thing: always dive with maximum care and awareness to protect our reefs from further damage.

The main daytrip dive sites (available all year round) in Phuket are:

Racha Yai Racha Racha Noi
Phi Phi Islands King Cruiser
Shark Point Anemone Reef
Koh Doc Mai

The main liveaboards destinations (seasonal - usually from November to May) are:

The Similan Islands
Surin Archipelago and Richeliu Rock
Hin Daeng and Hin Muang
Mergui Archipelago (Burma Banks)
